STEUBENVILLE – Deborah A. Venci, President, Barium & Chemicals, Inc., announced today that a $450,000 grant from the JobsOhio Revitalization Program will be used to complete an environmental remediation project at its facility at 515 Kingsdale Road, Steubenville, Ohio.
The grant will help Barium & Chemicals retain 27 jobs and create five new positions.
“JobsOhio and the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (“APEG”) have been tremendous to work with. The grant is critical to our efforts to remain in operation and focus our resources towards expansion and job creation in Jefferson County. The completion of the environmental cleanup project will also open up the portion of our facility along the Ohio River to potential use as a port, with direct access to the adjacent rail line and SR 7.”
Barium & Chemicals, Inc. is a third generation women-owned family business that has been located in Steubenville, Ohio since 1961, where it produces and supplies inorganic compounds of barium, strontium, calcium, potassium and other metallurgical compounds internationally to various industrial markets and is an integral supplier to the United States government and its subcontractors for national defense.
‘The JobsOhio Revitalization Program Loan and Grant Fund is designed to support the acceleration of redeveloping sites in Ohio,” said Ed Looman, project manager with APEG. “The primary focus is placed on projects that support near term job creation.
“The program proved to be a great fit for the ongoing efforts at Barium & Chemicals. The company has always been a strong supporter of Jefferson County in addition to providing stable employment. This was a team effort between APEG, JobsOhio, the company and others. I wish the company well with its future plans.”
JobsOhio is a private, non-profit corporation designed to drive job creation and new capital investment in Ohio through business attraction, retention, and expansion.
The Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth is the JobsOhio Network Partner for 25 Southeastern Ohio counties, including Jefferson County.
