Something’s brewing in Jackson

The team at Sixth Sense Brewing Company, 175 E. Main St., Jackson, consists of (from the left) Head Brewer Mike Davis, and part owners Kelly Wiley and Jamey and Jennifer Ratcliff. The group is shown inside the tap room, which features a wide array of craft beers.

As of late February, Jackson is now home to its very own craft beer brewery and tap room. Sixth Sense Brewing Company officially opened its doors Feb. 24 at 175 E. Main Street, just next door to Arch & Eddie’s.

There’s a good reason why the new brewery and tap room is in such close proximity to Arch & Eddie’s (in fact the two buildings are even connected). These two locally-owned businesses involve the same group of folks in Jamey and Jennifer Ratcliff, Kelly Wiley and Mike Davis.

According to Davis, the opening of Sixth Sense has been a three-year project. He explained the beer recipe development process took about two years, with the remaining year involving the licensing process. Davis took a passion for micro-brewing, which he had been doing for some time out of his garage, and transformed it into a craft (no pun intended).

“Arch & Eddie’s is very craft beer-oriented and we’ve always talked about opening a brewery,” Davis told The Telegram. “I had been brewing for a while in the garage and was making some pretty decent beer, and we felt we could get to the point where we could make really good beer.

After attending a three-month course at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, a school that focuses on brewing science, Davis stood ready to share his passion with Jackson and the surrounding area.

The Ratcliffs, Davis and Wiley are now happy to announce Sixth Sense’s tap room is open Wednesday and Thursday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. The site features 10 craft beers on tap including mosaic pale ale, double IPA, lemon-blueberry shandy, and scotch ale, just to name a few. Patrons can even grab a “crowler can” which is filled and sealed on-site, can be purchased to-go, and which will keep for up to eight weeks.
