COLUMBUS—State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) joined area leaders for the groundbreaking ceremony of Vinton County’s new supermarket, Campbell’s Market.
Construction of the new supermarket is welcomed news to the rural county of about 13,200 residents. Vinton County has had no grocery store since 2013, forcing residents to drive more than 30 minutes to stores in Athens, Chillicothe, Logan, Jackson or Wellston.
“I am pleased to see this project becoming a reality for the residents of Vinton County,” said Senator Peterson. “Nowhere else in the state would you even think about a grocery store being the major concern of the county. The local resources and new job opportunities will surely improve the quality of life for area residents.”
Senator Peterson, as well as Congressman Steve Stivers and Representative Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) were instrumental in attracting the market to McArthur. Funds for this project were secured during the 131st General Assembly.
After nearly four years with limited options, area residents can begin shopping at the new Campbell’s Market as early as August.
