About OhioSE
Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) is a nonprofit regional economic development organization covering 25 counties in southern and eastern Ohio. OhioSE is a part of a family of organizations working to improve the regional economy under the umbrella of the Appalachian Partnership Inc. (API), our parent organization.
Under the leadership of the new API CEO Dr. Glenda Bumgarner, API is building out a board of regional executives to be the business voice of the region. OhioSE’s role is to operate as the regional network partner of JobsOhio, serving as the field staff of for JobsOhio in the region. JobsOhio is a private nonprofit corporation designed to drive job creation and new capital investment in Ohio through business attraction, retention and expansion efforts. OhioSE helps companies and development organizations access JobsOhio programs to spark new investment and job creation.
We are a team of 12 professionals directed and governed by a board of regional business leaders, development professionals, and relevant subject matter experts who are willing to devote their time and expertise to making our regional economy stronger.
We are grateful to receive the generous financial support of JobsOhio through our service contract and our sponsors: AEP Ohio, Columbia Gas, and Ohio’s Rural Electric Cooperatives. Thank you for your support!
Meet Our Team
“Despite the challenges of 2020, last year was a tremendous year of growth for so many businesses in our region. We’re proud to have partnered with JobsOhio to bring in more than $30.6 million of investment into Southeast Ohio in a year when it was needed most.”
Mike Jacoby
PRESIDENT OF OhioSE
2021 Impact
This Year in Project Success
The solid workforce and work ethic of Pike County employees has contributed greatly to our success and we feel will do so for this expansion, as well,”
– Blake Pierce, Director of Real Estate.
Rural King (Pike County)
Rural King chose southern Ohio as the new home for their North American Import Center in 2021. The expansion at the former Masco/Mill’s Pride facility in Waverly will bring 200 new employees and an investment of over $33 million into Pike County. The project will grow Rural King’s employee count in Waverly to 715 non-retail employees, nearly a $30 million annual payroll, and nearly 3 million square feet under roof. Aside from the Import Center, Rural King will expand its distribution center and manufacturing operations in southern Ohio. These investments will make Waverly the hub for Rural King goods and will support the firm’s growth for years to come. This latest expansion is the third project OhioSE and JobsOhio helped to incentivize with Rural King originating from its original attraction to the area in 2014.
Winesburg Chair, Ltd (Holmes County)
Winesburg Chair, Ltd. in 2021 chose to expand its Holmes County, Ohio, campus rather than establishing a new manufacturing facility closer to its growing customer base in the South and West. The project included an 80,000 SF building addition and acquisition of new equipment to increase its production capacity. The total project investment was more than $4 million and will result in the creation of 50 new jobs. The company has been operating in Holmes County for 20 years and employs more than 160 workers. What started as a two-man logging operation has now grown into a vertically-integrated company manufacturing hardwood furniture. The furniture is available from retailers nationally and is marketed as Palettes by Winesburg.
We take great pride in the furniture we produce and now offer one of the most complete custom dining lines in the country. We are most appreciative to OhioSE, JobsOhio and Holmes County Economic Development Council for their continued support.”
– Bryan Coblentz, Owner, Winesburg Chair, Ltd
We are so excited to start this new journey. This project will give us the opportunity to expand our operational capabilities and create jobs right here in Glouster, Ohio. We believe when women thrive communities thrive. We are hoping to use this space to have a greater impact on women’s economic progress and facilitate our revitalization goals in Glouster.”
– Jane Cavarozzi, owner of Dirty Girl Coffee
Dirty Girl Coffee (Athens County)
Dirty Girl Coffee is a producer and wholesaler of craft roasted coffee, supplying restaurants, bars and coffee shops and selling retail coffee at dirtygirlcoffee.com. The company, located near the Village of Glouster in Athens County, is investing at least $149,958 to renovate a building where it will expand its coffee roasting operation. The new location is a historic two-story building on High Street in Glouster, where Dirty Girl will install roasting equipment, its packaging and shipping operation, product development, and company offices. The company plans to create five new jobs as a result of their growth. A $50,000 grant was provided through the JobsOhio Inclusion Grant program.

Opportunity Appalachia
In 2020-2021, Opportunity Appalachia began working with a group of 17 projects in rural Central Appalachia (six projects in Ohio) to provide technical assistance and structure financings with social and financial returns, bringing new investment and jobs to hard hit rural communities in federally designated Opportunity Zones. After a year-long effort to provide design and architectural support, complete market assessments, develop business plans and prospectus, and facilitate investor introductions, 7 projects have identified financing sources and are anticipated to close on +$100M in 2021-22, creating more than 745 jobs in coal-impacted communities. An additional 6 projects are likely to be financed later in 2022 at +$140M resulting in the creation of +270 quality jobs.
