Griffeth & Son Trucking expanding in Carroll County

CARROLLTON, OHIO – Griffeth & Son Trucking, a family owned business founded in 1987, soon will be operating from a new location and will create 40 new jobs in Carroll County.

The company, which was primarily focused on transporting coal when first organized, is purchasing the former Heritage Plastics building, 861 N. Lisbon St., Carrollton. Cleanup work has started at the site and should be ready for occupancy by the end of 2019.

In recent years, Griffeth & Son’s business has expanded due to new opportunities related to the oil and gas industry as well as a new water hauling division.  The building it is purchasing has been shuttered since early 2017 when Heritage Plastics closing, resulting in the loss of 80 jobs.

Relocation to the site will allow Griffeth & Son to continue growing its limestone hauling division. The site is rail served and the company has plans to expand the rail infrastructure.

The company will invest roughly $4.2 million for the purchase of the building, renovations to the building and the extension of the rail line. Griffeth & Son currently has 26 employees but will be adding 40 new jobs over the course of the next three years, creating more than $1 million in new payroll.

“I applaud Griffeth & Son for this major commitment to Carroll County, said Ed Looman, APEG project manager. “This is a major undertaking for the company but the owners realize the potential in the region for continued growth. On top of that, it’s great to see a home grown business expand and bring new life to a vacant building.”

Griffeth & Son received a $200,000 grant from JobsOhio through its Revitalization program. In addition, the Ohio Rail Development Commission will provide $100,000 for the rail work.

“Without the help of JobsOhio and the ORDC, this project would not have been possible,” said Jim Griffeth, company CEO.  “I want to thank both organizations for their assistance.

“We are moving forward with some major renovations to the building and we look forward to operating from a new location and providing additional jobs in Carroll County.”

“Griffeth and Son Trucking has been a well-established, family owned and operated, business in Carroll County for a long time. Their expansion will provide desperately needed jobs to our community and bring back a rail delivery service that has been absent for many years. Griffeth’s commitment to job growth and business expansion is a huge win for Carroll County” said Christopher R. Modranski, Carroll County Economic Development Director.
